Maabarot Products Ltd. was established in 1963.
Maabarot Products and its subsidiaries are active in a broad variety of categories in the field of nutrition: infant food, pet food, vitamins, nutritional supplements, organic food, as well as additional businesses. Kibbutz Maabarot founded the company in 1963, and since 1993 Maabarot Products has been traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Approximately 60% of the company's shares are held by the kibbutz. In 2006 Maabarot Products' sales volume totaled NIS 433 million.
The company's business is conducted in four sites: Emek Hefer in central Israel, Or Yehuda, Moshav Mevo Modi'im and Izmir, Turkey.
The company focuses on the marketing of branded health and nutrition consumer products and is in possession of ISO 9002 certification (certified by the International Standards Organization).
Business Operations
Baby food: In 2007, activities in this field are conducted by the subsidiary Materna Laboratories. The business accounts for approximately 53% of the group's activities. Materna leads the Israeli baby food market with 55% of the milk substitute segment and 50% of the infant cereal segment. Although most of the company's sales are made to the domestic market, sales are also made to Jewish communities abroad.
The sale of 51% of Materna's business operations to Nestle-Osem was completed in December 2009. As a result, a long term partnership was launched under the name of Materna Industries between Maabarot Products, Osem and Nestle, with the purpose of leading the infant and toddler nutrition in Israel.
Pet food: The pet food business is conducted by the subsidiary Biopet, which manufactures the brands Bonzo and La-Cat and also imports pet food to supplement its product line. The company contributed approximately 12% to Maabarot Products' revenues for the year 2006.
In late 2005 Biopet acquired the controlling interest in the distribution company responsible for distributing its products in Turkey under the company's brands.
In 2007 Biopet began exporting its brands to Turkey following the acquisition of 51% of the distribution company in Turkey and the establishment of the Global Biopet partnership.
In June 2008, Biopet Ltd. completed its acquisition of Schiff & Ribovsky Manufacturing, Import and Marketing for Pets Ltd. The combined enterprise is the market leader for pet food and accessories in Israel with a market share of about 28%.
Agricultural: The company's main business in the agricultural field is the manufacture of milk substitutes for calves and lambs, which contributed approximately 6% of the Maabarot group's revenues for the year 2006.
Nutritional supplements and vitamins: This business is conducted by Ta'am Teva Altman. In October 2004 Maabarot Products acquired all of the shares of Altman, thus extending its activity to the nutritional supplement and vitamin industry. In July 2005 Maabarot acquired the controlling interest in Ta'am Teva, another manufacturer of nutritional supplements, with the aim of merging the two firms. Today the company offers a range of 1,200 products including the brands Mega Gluflex, Alsepa, Altman, Protec, and others.
In 2006 the Ta'am Teva Altman business formed 27% of Maabarot Products' operation.
In June 2008, Maabarot Products Ltd. acquired 60% of Anlit Ltd. which manufactures and markets dietary supplements for children, including Yomi, the top best-selling brand for jelly bears in Israel’s pharmacy chains. Anlit’s CEO is Gil Ben Yosef.
Organic food: In late 2006 the company acquired the controlling interest in the firm Adama, which markets a very broad range of organic food products under the Adama brand. The company holds a market share of 25% of the organic food market.
